Quick Update day 87 to 90

Sorry but I ran out of time to do the last walking day. I made it to South Lake Tahoe and have spent 3 full days resting as nd being spoiled by my hosts Daniel and Georgina.

Now I have a 7 day section to Sierra City

  1. Kirstine, I’m curious what shoes you are using that you can just splosh through streams and puddles and not get blisters! And walk on all that snow!! Or is the secret good socks??
You should really come back in Sept or Oct and do the Kearsarge to Reds Meadow part again so you can see all the beautiful lakes and meadows full of colorful flowers!! No ugly stream crossing or snowy passes. The Sierra is magic!

    1. Hi Janet. I am using Altra Lone Peak 4.0 with merino socks. It would be neat to revisit the Sierras without snow sometime in the future to see the difference

  2. You are inspiring. Thank you. I live very close to the Ebbets, Carson, or Sonora Pass. I just missed you passing by. I’ve done only day hikes on PCT. Would love to try backpacking along the PCT this summer with y dog. Thanks again and take care… 💜👍

    1. Thanks. I wish you all the best with your hiking. I am sure you will have a great time. It must be neat hiking with your dog.

  3. I did “Trail Magic” at Donner Pass Road on Saturday, June 22. I really enjoyed serving about 20 people but not one PCT Thru hiker. Sigh. I was hoping to meet you. I am so impressed with your grit, your athleticism. To think that you did a good section of the high Sierra with the wild stream crossings, and vast snowfields not to mention the snow-bound passes SOLO—well, that’s just amazing! My hat’s off to you! Well done!

    1. Thanks Tom and thanks for doing the trail magic, i am sure those 20 were grateful. I passed through on monday.

  4. I binged watched your updated blogs as you posted them and enjoyed every one of them. I’m glad you got some rest days and I’m sure having some companionship was a good thing for you too. It must be tough to be out there seeing so few people day after day especially when it’s treacherous. I hope your next stretch is very enjoyable. Stay safe and thank you so much for sharing your journey.

I’m doing a section hike of the JMT beginning 8/5 over Duck Pass (near Mammoth) and heading south and then out Kearsarge Pass. Then a few weeks later 8/31 I’ve got a permit for the High Sierra Trail from Sequoia NP and ending over Whitney. I’ve done Mammoth to the valley a few years ago. I’m 65 but quite strong and do quite a bit of backpacking in the Grand Canyon since I live in Arizona.

I won’t have the same conditions you have had for sure, but I am absolutely looking for lots of melting so that the creek crossings are manageable for me. As you say, safety first . . . even if it means I have to go another year.

    1. I hope you enjoy your hike, I know the snow is melting fast so it should be pretty and the rivers should be lower by then.

  5. Thank you for your posts! I hope you are enjoying your hike and for your continued safety. Looking forward to your posts about the next sections; I’ve been through there, but not in the conditions you are experiencing. You are so much tougher and braver than I!

  6. Well done Kirstine for touching it out in such a positive way. Enjoying your blogs immensely. Have watched a few Vlogs too with Mark and enjoyed those as well.

    1. Hi Sue. Thanks for this feedback. I am glad you are enjoying them. Is Nana reading them?

      1. Hi Kirstine, I’ve got to find a way for her to read them easily given she has no internet and is not very IT savvy. Will see if I can easily print them off for her without too much paper waste. She getting her internet soon s maybe Sriya can help her watch your Vlogs. Looking forward to reading some more of your adventures soon. Xxxx
