Update

I have just enjoyed a zero day in Sisters and head back out on trail tonight. The videos are now up to date less the 11 miles south of Sisters.

I did the 50 mile challenge and achieved 51 miles (82.5 km) in 17 1/2 hours without any issues with injuries.

My next stop won’t have internet so the next contact will be at Cascade Locks, hopefully on 16 Aug

  1. I see on Facebook that you have completed the trail and you are now in Canada. A wonderful “mom” posting. I sure have enjoyed your updates in following you from Mexico all the way to Canada. I look forward to seeing how the “rest of the story” turns out!

  2. Loved the video in the Goats Rocks area. Also all the wildlife. The marmots, giant slugs, toads: such a treat. Couple questions: did you make your rain skirt? And I am curious about what you are using to light your stove. I’ve not seen a lighter like this and it sure looks handy. What is it?

    1. Yes I made my rainskirt. First one was a drawstring garbage bag that did 2700 km on Te Araroa Trail. Then made a DCF one for norway and this one is Sinylon material. My lighter is a Piezo lighter, it creates a spark. I love it.

      1. Thanks! Missing your video trail reports. I know you have no signal. Happy Trails πŸ’•πŸ™‚

  3. Hike on, glad to know you are still on the trial, if not finished. Look forward (hopefully) to you finishing your blog and videos when time allows.

  9. Wow! You are rocking the PCT! Love following along. Just got back from a round trip hike of the fabulous section from Harts Pass, WA to Manning Park, BC. The Pasayten Wilderness is gorgeous. Looking forward to your reaction to this final section of your journey.

  10. Hi Kirstine,
What a very pleasant surprise to find even more vlogs from you posted this morning! After a painful week’s drought … we are Up to day 137 now – wow that’s just a few days ago. Feeling even closer to you Now! Thank you … Hope you actually get to relax a bit though in your town time … how long does it take you to edit an average day? I guess you write your blogs at night on the day.
Loving this Oregon section … recalling 1982 for me when 2 mates & I set off from Oz to walk the whole PCT … unfortunately it was similar record snow year in the Sierras & we were advised against starting at Mexico by our trail hosts once we had landed in LA. Anyway plans went awry & I ended up just completing Oregon. But after almost 40 years now of alternate life adventuring I’m in training for a second attempt … seems like it would be much easier these days with guthooks, satnav,, phones, trail angel caches etc … the only reservation I am having is the apparent traffic on the trail!! … but you seem to manage a nice balance … have you gone any full days seeing anyone, or just one or two others … I wonder what your quietest encounter day was.
When I mentioned the PCT again to one of my trail partners from ’82 he suggested Wilson’s Prom to Cape York as a alternative!! … but I feel I still have unfinished business with the PCT.
Anyway turning 60 next year, feeling super fit in my head, but very mindful that maybe my body may not agree completely once I subject it to months on end of hiking, so I am very appreciative of any cautions and advise you offer. Training daily … so I’ve got a fair time to build strength.
All the best for your last sections ( feeling sad that it will be ending all too soon).

    1. Well done in planning to go back and finish PCT after so many years. It takes 1 – 1.5 hours on average to edit each video. My longest without seeing people was 7 days between Kearsarge Pass and Mammoth and then 5.5 days for the following section but that was only because of the high snow year. Apart from that only a couple of days seeing no one. On the busiest section I would still gave an hour or two at a time without seeing people each day

      1. dear Kirstine
Great to see your vlogs again …
started to develop withdrawal symptoms & had to resort to re-runs of your High Sierra days -haha!
was worried tho’… such a long gap … you must have been too happily busy socializing in Cascade Locks to edit & upload I’m guessing!
As an inexperienced mountaineer I really value your commentary especially for insights & advice.
Your videos are well balanced in so many ways. Congrats … I know what an effort sorting pics & editing film is.
A few more Qs: are you doing your editing & blogs in your tent at night, or waiting for town? What app/ editing program are you using?
        Clinton

        1. Thanks for your comments Clinton. Yes the long gap was a combination of lack of internet and taking a break over trail days. I did rdit at night pre Sierras when I was walking shorter days but after that it is done in towns. I did type my blog every night until Oregan but then longer days mean I don’t feel like it now, hence the blogs stopped.

      2. I am still amazed that you did that much of the Sierra alone. Bravo to you. Loved your videos. What an inspiration you have been to so many.

  11. Lovely to see your progress! Thanks for letting us know you are safe and getting ever closer to Canada, and thanks for all the work doing the videos and blogs. The 50-mile challenge is incredible, and you did 51!
