Hikes Norge Pa Langs Tramps

Resupply Plan

Planning the resupply was the most challenging part of planning this adventure. There are a lot of remote areas I travel through and not many large towns.

In order to reduce the weight of food carried I would have preferred to be able to resupply every 5 days but this is not possible most of the time. I am relying on a combination of hotels and post office Poste Restrante (where the post office holds packages).

The resupply packages will contain breakfasts, dinners and maps. I will be buying lunches and snacks from the small supermarkets or grocery stores where I take my zero days.

I am bringing one month of breakfasts and dinners from New Zealand and will then start introducing Norwegian food to discover what I like. Also Norway is one of the few countries more expensive than NZ so I may be able to save money by buying in NZ.

The resupply Plan is as follows:

Start B 5 L 6 D 5 Maps 1-5
Olderfjord B 8 L 9 D 8 Maps 6-17
Kautokeino B 5 L 6 D 5 Maps 17-27

  1. May I ask how you organized the shipping of resupply boxes? Did you send them all yourself after you got to Norway? Or did you pack them in advance and have someone else send them at certain times? 🙂
I’m dreaming about doing this one myself, but the resupplying seems more daunting than on less logistically challenging trails like the PCT.

    1. Hi Charlotte. I sent them to myself as I went, the first from Honninsvag. Just be aware the post office has a 3 week limit before it will send it back to the sending address. You can also send to accomidation if you book with them. In hindsight I did not need to send as much. I started with dehydrated meals and a breakfast powder from NZ and my maps in my packages. The shops where I stopped were generally fine to do full resupplies from. I think having more challenging logistics is part of what makes this more of an adventure but it is still possible to wing it as you go.

      1. I only just now saw your reply, sorry! And thanks for the detailed answer. I guess I’d need to send maps regularly anyway. Luckily I have ages and ages to plan, unfortunately there are so much fewer sources online than for the big US hikes. So thanks for all you’ve posted here, it’s really great of you to share!

    1. They were good but strict on the 3 week limit. I had one package returned to where I sent it from

  2. Hi Kirstine,
